Yet again by the special education department. To discuss the brat. My stomach is already a mess of writhing anxiety. I asked the class teacher yesterday at the school gate as to what prompted this sudden renewal of interest in his case from the special ed department seeing as this is the fag end of the academic year, and they have slept peacably on his file papers for the entire year. "He is slow academically."
This is a child who couldnt even write at the start of the term. He is now writing full sentences in print and cursive. He didnt have the concept of a number line when term started. He now does his addition and subtraction on his own. If the school is galloping ahead at obscene levels and beginning division and multiplication (dont I remember us learning the two concepts well after we had been introduced to the tables!), it is too far fetched to expect him to gallop too with the rest of the kids. This is senior kg. I am already shuddering at his syllabus and asking his father to sit with him for his arithmetic.
We go in tomorrow morning to hear them out. As to why they feel he needs a special educator. If he needs help, I am perfectly alright with him receiving that help. But I am not willing to sit and listen if they label him. Because he doesnt fit into labels anymore. He's a perfectly regular child. Superbright. Superinteractive. Supersparkly. And its not because I am his mother. It is because I have sweated blood bringing him here. And I know from what point he started and to what point he has reached. If this is labelling purely because he had a history, I'm not accepting it.
And I'm metaphorically girding up my loins. He might be slow but he has no learning disability and no other issues. That I am sure of. Pray for me. And my son. Yes, the husband accompanies me. I cannot be trusted not to become a blabbering, snivelling, nose blowing mass of sobbing flesh.

Diision and multiplication in senior KG! God - you gotta be kidding! You're absolutely right - at his age, it's a huge deal that he can write and do addition and subtraction. What the school is trying to do is put obscene amounts of pressure on kids his age. Brat has absolutely NO learning issues - I'm sure you'll help the school authorities see that. Prayers and hugs coming your way.
kiran, im praying REAL hard and have crossed fingers and toes...but seriously listen to the voice of your heart...school teachers et al (and I know your mom was one too so i mean SOME school teachers) kahey jo kahey. In the end as Rahman said ' merey (aur Brat key) pass maa hai' and that is what counts. Your inner voice had alerted you to Krish's situation when no one else believed or supported you, now if your gut is telling you he is on the right track follow that.
senior kg is wayyyyy to early for division and stuff!!!! what r they trying to achieve? graduates at 15??
i think this is unnecessary pressure. Can we find him a school which is not so crazy ass abt pushing kids?
Huh...if only schools let children study at their own pace.....
good luck for the school meet...
my boy is 6, is in grade 1 in a cbse curriculum here, and he's just learnt his addition and subtraction...he's just started writing full sentences too...each child is different and gifted in their own way.
all the best and do as your heart dictates at the meeting, because krish needs you on his side.
all the best! take care
multiplication and division in sr kg? i am more and more convinced that Cubby doesnt need school! geez!
ofcos Krish is perfect! and history be damned.
praying REAL hard and wishing you guys more power and hope!
many hugs!

good luck! maybe they just want to say he is doing well and better than their expectation (always one for thinking positives!). He is such a sweetheart.
geez... division in kg? he's absolutely fine, don't get worked up and follow ur heart(don't beat them up though)
And good luck!
take care
All the best Kiran. My best wishes are with you. You give them a piece of your mind if they try to label him, and cannot appreciate the progress Krish has made. Multiplication and division in sr. kg is simply put... madness. Why don't you find another school for Krish, an international one or something like that.
Don't worry, I am sure you will all come out ok.
Good luck with the meeting, and hang in there, K. He's a tremendous kid, never mind what his teachers say.
BTW, have you heard of a school called Tridha (www.tridha.org)?
Kiran,
Long time lurker, but this one just tugs at my heart. If you are sure he is doing good, make sure the school is the right one for him. My son turned 8 yesterday, in 3rd grade. He started multiplication this year, and has now moved on to division. And he can still complain that it is too hard. Learning can be fun, but the wrong school makes it miserable.

What happened- sorry I'm late here.
Hope things went ok...our good wishes are with you guys
Good luck. Hope it all turns out well. The school does seem to have a very advanced curriculum. Senior KG should not have division, multiplication or cursive writing!

YOUR INSTINCTS ARE DEAD RIGHT.. THE INSANITY THAT MASQUERADES AS ACADEMICS IN OUR SCHOOLS MUST STOP RIGHT HERE..
Go get them!
Kiran, I hope everything went well in the school.
Seriously why is Multiplication and Division taught to 5 year olds?? Why so much pressure on kids at such early age. Next what. ... trigonometry in 1 st grade???
Are kids encouraged to just add / subtract / multiply / divide or they are encouraged to apply the concept ???
All the best, Kiran. Hope it turns out best for Krish and you.
Grrrrr this makes me so angry. I HATE when adults label children. He is bright and articulate and funny and totally perfect. THEY are obviously the slow ones!
keeping fingers crossed they say Khris is doing just fine!
Love you Kiran. You are amazing. All my prayers...tell us how it went!
Do all schools teach this at Sr.KG level? He is only 5, this sounds so ridicuous!
