I'm heartbroken...

Just noticed I have one less follower. For the life of me, I dont know when one decided to drop following karmickids, but have been chewing fingernails since. What have I done to drive away the said person...who is the said person...have I offended him or her in any way...have I bored the pants off him or her...have I unwittingly been rude...how can anyone do this to a nice person like me....
Yup. I'm that insecure. Therefore, dropped out follower come back. I beg and grovel and plead and apologise if I have caused umbrage in any way. I promise to post more brat stories and go light on the philosophy and soap boxing....

Hi Kiran,
My comment is unrelated to your blogpost. I don’t read blogs and was directed to you by a friend who routinely reads your blog. I have read a few posts and liked all of them. My favorite has been ‘of gods and joolery’.
This is a plea and a very frantic one. You have a fairly large viewership and are in a position to give this cause the visibility that it deserves. I am sure you have heard of the physical abuse meted out to a 10 year old child by some actress called Urvashi Dhanorkar (urge you to watch the video in the link)

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/news/city/mumbai/TV-actress-beats-burns-little-maid-for-eating/articleshow/4922001.cms

I am a mother myself and perhaps am more sensitized now to children’s right issues. I work in USA and have been living her for the last ten years and cannot help comparing the accountability in the west and lack thereof in India. Born and raised in Mumbai, I owe much of who I am today to my country and am thankful for the opportunities I have got. I want the country to progress and for that to happen, the citizens who democratically elect the government must find a voice. Due to various reasons, I visited Mumbai after a 6 yr gap. While the M’bai I left was one with mom n pop stores, the one I returned too had fancy malls. I was dismayed to see hutments and scarcely dressed hungry kids outside those very malls. Maybe I am overly sensitive now because of 2 babies of my own. I did see hungry kids before I left the country 10 years ago, but the rich/poor divide jumped at me this time. During the one month I visited, I read newspapers that were brimming with bollywood trivia. I was very disheartened to see Bacchan’s mother’s funeral shown live on TV while the grave genocide issue of our farmers committing suicide and feeding pesticides to their children in our very own Maharashtra was not given even a fraction of the funeral airtime. On a more positive note now, being new in the blogosphere, I am excited to see this avenue for activism. Back to Urvashi Dhanorkar’s realease on bail. It is clear she abused the child. You are a mother yourself. How will you react to your own child being abused like that? It broke my heart to watch that video. It angered and infuriated me (as did others) that she was released on bail. Is there no accountability at all? Can the rich just buy their way out of just about anything? Are we to sit back & watch as these actors commit crimes and walk? The media instead of putting the pressure on Salman Khan’s arrest prefers talking about his affairs. Is our society degenerating? This must make Gandhi, Bose, Nehru turn in their graves. Did they give their lives for this? Kiran, there are many such issues that have made so many of us here lose our sleep. Having seen how lawmakers are held accountable here and questioned in townhall forums by their constituencies, I just can’t help contrasting the way we work in India. Many of us here have discussed it. We feel helpless and reaching out to media in different ways. Some of us are counting on you to give this issue visibility. Perhaps we can get petitions signed as they do here in the west and put the pressure on the high courts to re-open Dhanorkar’s case, make an example out of her and give that 10 year old & other helpless children like her, some justice. We don’t know whom to turn to. You have a large audience and have the ability to impact. If you take the initiative, many will come forward to support. I look forward to your reply. I sincerely am hoping to see a post highlighting this issue (perhaps in both your blogs) & seeking solutions from readers to how we can reverse Urvashi's ruling (I know this isn't easy, but someone, somewhere has to make that change)
