For every parent out there

Bullying has become endemic these days. It always existed, no doubt, but it starts younger, gets meaner and more vindictive now. And as a parent I cannot but help wondering if there are things I could do to make the brat more

resilient and able to stand up to those who bully him and not take out his anger and hurt on those younger and weaker than him.

Here's a nice article on the syndrome. http://www.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1982190,00.html

Was able to read the article after keeping your post open in my browser for three days :) Great article, BTW!

Personally, I have found that it IS possible to raise a kind child who would also stand up for herself when bullied. It took us a long time, and there were times when we got frustrated but NOW I see a confident young woman in my daughter who won't tease someone but won't take teasing either. Took us a long time to achieve the balance though - and it is still a work in progress.

Gettingtherenow: I take hope from your experience and hope I can instil that in the brat too. Right now, fists are winning the battle.
